National Vehicle Mercury Switch Recovery Program Extended to 2021

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Vehicle Mercury Switch Recovery Program (NVMSRP) to reduce mercury air emissions on November 15, 2018 – America Recycles Day.

The MOU was previously signed by ARA as well as the Steel Manufacturers Association, the American Iron and Steel Institute, the End of Life Vehicle Solutions Corporation, and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. With Administrator Wheeler’s signature, EPA’s participation and support for the MOU has now been extended until 2021.

ARA Executive Director, Sandy Blalock, stated “We are proud that our Certified Automotive Recyclers Program (CAR) certification program requires that the company participate in the NVMSRP or equivalent state program.”
